FURTHER DESCRIPTION

The Prague Society for International Cooperation and the Global Panel Foundation are honored to announce that this year’s Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award is to be presented to former President Václav Havel on the evening of the 17th of October 2003.

The HRE Citizenship Award is given each year to an individual who has dedicated their life to public service with the stipulation that the 150.000Kc financial portion is passed to a gifted young person. Previous recipients of the award have been Madeleine Albright, who passed the financial portion to Petra Procházková for her work in Chechnya; and Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Conducting Corps of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, who bestowed the 150.000kc on a young pianist, Lukáš Vondrácek.

This year the financial portion was passed on to Andrej Dynko editor of Naša Niva a major independant newspaper focused on politics and culture. It is an important symbol of the national tradition and highly critical of the Lukeshenka regime.
